Under the new labor law I would like some clarification.
Our company has just been downgraded from a level A to a Level C category ( it is an Education Institute)
Our boss is now saying that we should work 10 hours minimum a day, and lose our 2 off days - giving only 1 day off per week.
In my labor contract I am only signed to work 48 hours per week and I easily do this in the 5 days per week.
My off days are split ( Tuesday and Thursday ) - not consecutive and I am obliged to work every Friday and Saturday at ordinary rate of pay
The company does not pay overtime even when we work 12 hour days sometime ... they say they do not recognise it. On the rare occasion it has been paid it has only been paid at normal time when we are asked to work on our rostered days off.
The company has not supplied us with health cover of any sort - not even the MOH Health Card which would at least enable us to use the government health clinic
I am registered with the Ministry of Education as a Principal .......... however they have put me down as a Primary Teacher which is extremely demeaning - the owner says designation is of no consequence and he can designate anyone as he wants to.
Despite the fact my skill is Level 1 he does not pay the 12000 minimum payment for this.
On the recent death of my father he point blank refused to pay the airfare ( despite the fact I had not taken A/L leave since 2007) and on the brief emergency leave I had in October for 10 days only he demanded I get an airfare to Australia through one of my friends at Emirates for 2400 dhs instead of the normal 6500) He has put a cap of 4000 dhs on my airfare which in no way covers the cost - my contract states I am entitled to an airfare each year. In addition he refused to pay the salary prior to my going and said I would receive it after I returned to the UAE.
My contract has just been renewed and I am 65. This means no loans are available for me for things like rent under the Central Bank Law. . He has said there are no advances whatsoever for any reason which puts me in a quandary when it comes to the annual payment for rent. ( 1 cheque ) ............. he needs me to work as I am the only western teacher he has for English
Finally, our salaries are not paid until the 6th of the following month which means that penalties always apply for things like credit cards etc as they are all geared to payments before the end of the month.
Unfortunately his UAE sponsor is in the MOL so it is very difficult for anyone to put a complaint against him.
