Dear Mr Deepak,
I am currently employed in a newly - opened business. My employer told us that we have to work 12+ hours per day and 7 days a week. My 3-year employment contract started on January 1, 2016. According to HR staff they are now processing my Employment Visa because my Visit visa is about to expire on January 16.
During my interview with the CEO we agreed that there will be a 1-day off though it will not be on Friday. And in case there are lots of work I will work even on my rest day. He also promised me that there will be free meal (lunch) although all of these were just verbal agreement. Before I signed the contract I asked HR staff about this but she told me that the CEO did not mention anything about that. When I met the CEO last week he is not in good mood and very busy so I did not have chance to ask him.
With this, I have the following questions and looking forward for your help.
- a. is a 3-year contract legal? I've read that most contract here in Dubai is only 2 years?
- b. can I ask my employer for a rest day and overtime time pay? Based on what i read the maximum working hours is 48 hours per week
- c. if we will not agree can I leave this job and look for another, what would be the consequences?
- d. should I approach my employer about these would it not give him negative impression about me and terminate me after a few days?
Thank you very much and anticipating your assistance.
All the best,
